What is CaravanToBuy?
CaravanToBuy is a community of people that exists for the sake of collective buying. We get great deals for our members on products and services through high-volume buying.
Why isn’t it a store?
CaravanToBuy does not sell items to its members. It simply organizes collective buying deals. CaravanToBuy sorts through a selection of offers from vendors and manufacturers, and then picks the best offer for its members.
Is it a public or private community?
It is a private community. The deals that we get are exclusive only to our members. You won’t find deals like these anywhere else.
What does it cost to register for CaravanToBuy?
Nothing. It is totally free.
The Caravans
What are Caravans?
Every “Caravan” is associated with a product or service that our users want to buy at a discount. The Caravan requires a minimum number of people to follow it in order to get a deal.
How long does a Caravan last?
The amount of time that a Caravan lasts depends on the type of item it is asking for. For common consumer goods, a Caravan can take 2 to 4 weeks.
What does it mean to follow a Caravan?
Following a Caravan does NOT require any type of commitment to buy the item. It just means that the member following the Caravan will be informed about the deals that the Caravan gets for the item.
How can I create a Caravan? Can anyone do it?
On both the page called “List of Caravans” and on the page, “Details of a Caravan”, you will find a button called “Create a Caravan”. Any member can create a Caravan if he or she cannot find the item they are looking for. We recommend being specific about and describing the item that you propose (maker, model, etc) so that the assigned Caravan Driver can process it correctly and other people looking for that same item can find it too.
Is there any commitment in creating or following a Caravan?
There is absolutely no commitment. You will only be informed of the Caravan’s progress, and you can stop following it at any time.
Why should I share my Caravan with my friends?
In order to get the best deals and discounts on a Caravan, it is fundamental to get the largest number of followers possible. The more followers, the better chances for a great price. It is very important that every member invites those he or she knows in order to spread the word and get the most number of people interested.
Who determines the number of buyers necessary to get a deal on a Caravan?
The number of buyers needed for a Caravan is determined in function of the minimum requirements of high volume buying for an advantageous deal. The Caravan Driver is responsible for establishing the minimum number of buyers needed for the deal.
Who determines the prices?
The price is determined based upon the offers of the vendors and the agreements reached with the Caravan Driver. While the deal is still in negotiation, we will estimate possible discounts for the item based on prior deals, the type of product, the number of necessary buyers, etc.
What does N/A means?
N/V means “Not Available”. It appears on the expected discount or on the number of necessary buyers when there is not sufficient information to make a more accurate estimation.
Why doesn’t CaravanToBuy publish prices?
Some manufacturers restrict how their prices can be published. Given that our prices are special for a high-volume buy, sometimes the manufacturer does not permit us to show the final price until checkout. This doesn’t require that you buy the product. You can easily remove it from your shopping cart and cancel the buy.
The Caravan Driver
Who is the Caravan Driver?
The Caravan Driver is a qualified member of our team who is responsible for the success of the buying operation. He or she is in charge of getting the best deal for you with the vendors.
What is the Caravan Driver’s role?
The Caravan Driver is a business agent at the service of the buyers. He or she helps the buyers by informing them of new deals and clearing up doubts. CaravanToBuy as an organization does not attend to its members through call centers or other support services, but you can contact your Caravan Driver at any time.
The responsibilities of the Caravan Driver are as follows:
- Inform followers of and resolve doubts about the progress of the Caravan.
- Get the best deal and organize the selection of offers with the vendors.
- Supervise the shipment of products and manage incidents and possible returns.
Can anyone be a Caravan Driver?
No. The Caravan Driver is a trained agent from CaravanToBuy with all of the qualifications and tools necessary to do his or her job. If you are interested in working for CaravanToBuy as a Caravan Driver, you can contact us in our Human Resources email, (info@caravantobuy.com).
If I know of any discount possibilities, can I collaborate with the Caravan Driver?
Yes. The Caravan Driver will appreciate collaboration with any member for the selection of vendors, and other help to make the deal even better.
The Deal
What does it mean when a Caravan has a Deal?
The Caravan has a Deal when there is an agreement reached with a vendor. Once notified of the Deal, the Caravan followers can accept the conditions of the deal and buy the product, or not. Only when the Caravan has a Deal can the members buy the product.
How long does it take to close a Deal?
The amount of time to close a Deal depends on the type of Caravan. The typical duration for consumer products is 48 hours. This time can shorten to even less than one minute, especially when there are very good deals and the number of interested buyers is greater than the available stock. Once this period is finished, the Caravan will go out if the minimum number of necessary buyers accept it. In some instances, when the interest for a product continues, a Caravan can have successive Deals over a period of time.
How will I know that a Caravan has a Deal?
The Deal will be announced to all those who are following the Caravan. It is necessary to follow the Caravan beforehand in order to be informed and to not miss the opportunity to accept the great deals that can run out in very little time (sometimes within minutes).
What does it mean to accept the Deal?
Accepting the Deal means buying the product from the Caravan. Occasionally the Deals sell out fast (due to limited available stock), for which it is recommended to hurry and accept the Deal in order not to lose the opportunity.
Can I buy more than one product?
Normally, yes. In the checkout there will be the possibility to purchase various units of the same product. Nonetheless, there are Caravans in which, according to the conditions, the buyer can only purchase one unit of the product.
Who is the product vendor?
The vendor of the product can vary in a Caravan according to the Deals that are made. The identity of the vendor will be disclosed in both the information for the Caravan, and in the checkout.
What will happen if a member accepts the Deal and the Caravan goes out?
When the number of buyers is larger than the minimum needed, the collective buy happens (the Caravan Goes Out), the payment is cashed and the product is sent. The Caravan Driver will inform all of the buyers that the Caravan has gone out and will be responsible for the process, attending to whatever needs there are for shipment and or returns.
What happens if a member accepts a deal and the Caravan does not go out?
When the number of buyers is smaller than the minimum necessary or for another reason it is not possible to complete the collective buy (The Caravan DOES NOT go out), the payment will not become cash (there will be no charge on the credit card of the member). The Caravan Driver will inform all of the Caravan followers of the situation, and will tell the members if the Caravan will continue looking for another deal.
Payment
What forms of payment are accepted?
For the moment, only credit cards are accepted. We are, however, considering accepting other forms of payment in the future.
How does payment from the Caravan work?
When the member accepts the Deal and goes to checkout, he or she will user his or her credit card and CaravanToBuy will ask for pre-authorization of the payment. If the Caravan goes out, the payment will become cash (typically in less than 48 hours after the closing of the Deal). If the Caravan doesn’t go out, there will be no charge to the credit card.
Is it safe to use my credit card with CaravanToBuy?
We have the best security possible. CaravanToBuy will never save the credit card number used in the transaction. The only entity that knows the credit card number is the bank with which the operation is processed. Also, all the information in checkout is coded according to the safest standards available in the market (128 bits).
Is it possible to pay in different currencies?
Yes. Depending on the origin of the Caravan and the location of the vendor, it is possible to complete the payment in different currencies. The bank will apply the appropriate conversion in order to make the payment through credit card.
When will the payment go through?
The payment will go through in the moment that the Caravan goes out, making the collective buy possible. (Typically in less than 48 hours after the acceptance of the Deal).
Shipment, Returns, and Guarantees
Why do the buying conditions change with every Caravan?
The buying conditions, just like the vendor, are specific to the agreed deal. When a Caravan has one successive Deal at the time, all of these conditions will vary in consonance with the agreements reached for each Deal.
When will my product be shipped?
Shipment depends on the specified conditions of each Caravan. Normally, the shipments of a Caravan’s product will be made within one week after purchase. According to the form and destination of the shipment, it is reasonable to expect the product within a period of 2 weeks after purchase. The Caravan Driver will always inform about the shipment method of the products.
What are the typical return policies?
The return policy depends on the Caravan, and will be specified on its buying conditions, which are published when the Caravan has reached a Deal. It will also depend on the legal conditions applicable to the buyer and the seller. Typically, CaravanToBuy will demand that the vendors adopt a standard return policy in the case of receipt of a wrong or damaged product within a period of 7 days after its delivery.
Who will give the guarantee of the product?
The guarantee of the products is the manufacturer’s responsibility. It will be specified in the information of every Caravan the nature and conditions of the guarantee offered for the product in each Deal.
Does CaravanToBuy offer any additional guarantee?
CaravanToBuy strives to defend the interests of its members. Through the Caravan Drivers we have committed to channel and support any possible complaint or claims toward the vendors and manufacturers. As opposed to individual buying, we as a collective buying team will exploit to the fullest the best communication and negotiation practices for the benefit of our members.
